Upcoming NATIVE HEALTH Events:
Licensed DUI Program - New Session beginning March 2nd- State licensed Level I DUI Education and Treatment which consists of 16 hours of DUI education and at least 20 hours of substance abuse treatment. Level II DUI education consists of 16 hours of education. Each person must complete an initial intake and screening and attend weekly scheduled DUI group sessions. Both Level I and II group sessions will complete their respective DUI programs within eight weeks of the first class. Each DUI group session is 2.5 hours in length and are held from 6:00-8:30 p.m. on respective scheduled days. Fees for both Level I and II DUI programs are $120.00 and a screening fee of $75.00 is required. Money orders made out to NATIVE HEALTH will only be accepted. National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day at NATIVE HEALTH - March 19th- NATIVE HEALTH will be hosting free Rapid HIV testing on Friday, March 19th at 4520 North Central Avenue, 3rd Floor from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Snacks will be available for all those who participate in this event. each person tested for HIV will receive results within ten minutes. FREE Community Car Seat Inspections - March 20 - 9:00-11:30 a.m. at NATIVE HEALTH- NATIVE HEALTH and Maricopa County Department of Health Office of Health Promotion and Education is hosting a FREE community wide "Car Seat Inspection" event on Saturday, March 20th from 9:00-11:30 a.m. Car seats will be inspected by Certified Car Seat Technicians and adjustments to your car seat will be made on site. No appointments are necessary- just drive through the south parking lot of the Native American Community Service Center (4520 N. Central Avenue). Inspections take approximately 20-25 minutes. This will ensure that your child is in the correct seat and safely positioned. Only 25 minutes to make sure your child is riding safely. Presentation for Parents and Grandparents: Parents Speak Up: Share Your Vision Workshop presented by Inter Tribal Council of Arizona - March 24th - 5:30-7:30 p.m. at NATIVE HEALTH- "Parents Speak Up: Share Your Vision Workshop" is a program that provides parents, grandparents, and guardians an opportunity and resources to help families talk about teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, media, getting the conversation started and breaking down the barriers. Parents, guardians and grandparents with youth ages 12-17 should attend. There is no registration fee to attend. Please bring a brown bag dinner. NATIVE HEALTH will provide dessert. Social Security Benefits - Indian Country - April Brown Bag Lunch - April 13th - Noon-1:00 p.m. at NATIVE HEALTH- The April Brown Bag lunch will be presented by the Social Security Benefits and Programs. Information on how to file for benefits online, SSA webinar, Part D extra help and Medicare will be covered. Bring your lunch and dessert will be provided by NATIVE HEALTH. Native GLBT Community Info/Health Fair - April 16th 1:00-5:00 p.m. NATIVE HEALTH is hosting the Native GLBT Community Information/Health Fair that will feature various vendors within the Phoenix metro area (as well as outside the area). Program information will be shared about services offered to the Native GLBT community. The Health Fair will include health screenings and free HIV testing. The event will take place at NATIVE HEALTH, 4520 North Central Avenue, 3rd Floor Conference Rooms. This event is open to the public. This will coincide with the Phoenix Pride activities. Living Well Traditionally Diabetes Youth Camp - July 27-30 The 10th Living Well Traditionally Diabetes Youth Camp will be held July 27-30th at Chauncey Ranch in Mayer, Arizona. This camp provides urban Native American youth ages 9-13 an opportunity to learn more about healthy living. The purpose of the program is to educate Native American youth about diabetes prevention, and ways to delay the onset of diabetes and promote healthier lives with positive lifestyle changes. There will be $100.00 non-refundable registration fee at time of application. Registration deadline is May 20th. Domestic Abuse Intervention Program (DAIP) - Open Entry - This program is for Native American men only. The length is 26 weeks on Monday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The cost is $15.00/session for a total of $390.00. Talking Circles - Talking Circles are offered on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. with Roy Johnston, Traditional Coordinator. Talking Circles are held in the 3rd Floor Conference Room.
