Online Desert Bean Soup Class

Chef Maria Parra Cano of Sana Sana Foods will teach a free, online class on how to cook Desert Bean Soup, on Friday, May 8, 2020, 12:00 p.m. on the NATIVE HEALTH Facebook page:

Here are the ingredients you will need if you would like to follow Chef Maria while she demonstrates:

  • 2 cups of red tepary beans
  • 1/4 cup dry cholla buds*
  • 1/4 cup of wild rice
  • 1 cup frozen or canned sweet corn
  • 1/2 cup of cilantro, chopped
  • 1 cup diced squash
  • 2 handfuls of fresh and chopped spinach or chard
  • 1 jalapeno, diced (optional)
  • 1/2 white onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • salt and peper to tast

*Cholla buds are optional depending on your teachings and respect for cacti. You can not use them or swap them out for potatoes. If you use potatoes, you do not need the wild rice.
