The Mental Health Awareness (MHAT) Program at NATIVE HEALTH provides community-centered trainings that help individuals recognize signs of mental health challenges and suicide risk, respond with confidence, and connect people to appropriate support and resources.
All trainings are offered at no cost to participants and organizations.
Our trainings are open to everyone, regardless of profession, background, or previous experience. You do not need to work in mental health, healthcare, or a related field to participate, and no prior mental health or suicide prevention training is required.
Whether you are a community member, parent or caregiver, educator, student, healthcare professional, first responder, Tribal employee, service provider, or simply someone who wants to feel more prepared to support others, you are welcome to participate.
Trainings Offered

– Youth Mental Health First Aid (Youth MHFA)
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed for adults who work with, support, or care for young people ages 12–18. Participants learn how to identify signs of mental health or substance use challenges, provide initial support, and connect youth to professional help and community resources.
Format: One-day training offered virtually and in person.
– Adult Mental Health First Aid (Adult MHFA)
Adult Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to recognize and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults. Participants build practical skills and confidence to support someone who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis and connect them with appropriate resources.
Format: One-day training offered virtually and in person.

– safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone)
safeTALK is a suicide alertness training that helps participants become more prepared to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide and take action to connect them with further help. Through guided activities and discussion, participants learn how to notice possible invitations for help, engage someone directly, and connect them with resources that can support their safety.
Format: Approximately half-day training offered in person.

– Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
ASIST is an interactive suicide intervention workshop that helps participants develop skills to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide, engage them in a direct conversation about suicide, and work with them to develop a plan that supports their immediate safety.
Format: Two-day workshop offered in person.

– QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer)
QPR is a suicide prevention training that teaches participants three practical steps—Question, Persuade, and Refer—that can help someone who may be considering suicide. Participants learn how to recognize warning signs, ask directly about suicide, offer support, and connect someone with appropriate resources.
Format: Brief (60-90 minute) suicide prevention training that may be offered virtually or in person.
